Tanya Cubric

London, United Kingdom

My work interrogates the experience of when the personal collides with the political. The lenses which I use to explore this are the grotesque, the erotic, shame and desire all via an interdisciplinary practice of video art, installation and performance.

My aim is to create a playful and inquisitive dialogue with the viewer. A dialogue that opens up space in both the viewer and myself to ask uncomfortable questions about how we face and utilise our oppressive societal stereotypes.

I have received funding for my work from the Art Council England, EU Cultural Foundation, Cambridge Junction, Brain Child Festival, 56 Dean Street Sexual Health Clinic and Theatre 503 as well as in kind support from Battersea Arts Centre and Theatre N16.

I was recently awarded the 2022 Arts Council Development Grant for transitioning from a live art practice to video art and installation.

Mariya Vasilyeva

Vienna, Austria

Born 1993 in Kyiv, Ukraine, studied fine arts in Munich und Vienna. I create video collages portraying myself in different roles and scenarios. My primary emphasis throughout the production process is to intensely engage with my own body. By digitally duplicating, amplifying, deforming, dehumanizing my body, I transform myself into an object and thus exemplarily reenact the abuse of power that can be found in the society. Through the experience as an Ukrainian immigrant in Western Europe, my work questions numerous patterns of my identity, especially as a woman.
