I am graduate of environment art Latvian Art Academy, design structure. The main priority of creating my art works is the process. At the time of process i do research and experimentalize using different kinds of materials and technics.

I draw big attention to those subjects, which affects mind of a human being or the structure of the planet (nature), in that way trying to find and figure out the meaning of things. Through the philo- sophic and empiric senses, i create art works for things that i care the most, unknown questions as a research.
I really want to continue to grow up and learn everything new in my professional work, using the experimental technics to amaze the spectator about the idea and visual pleasure.

Artwork “NOW” draws attention to various rooms coexistence in the same time, excluding human being as the main component of the environment. In this moment, in present, placed in the same space, we have the opportunity to teleportate indirectly by feeling the impact from other environment. To look at the calm nature’s rhythm from the tense and active urban environment. Installation is an online with nature which is shown using sounds and video media.

Juho Luukkainen is a Film Sound Designer with background in music, film and sculpture. His work ranges from composing a score for short film to metal casting, from documentary films to music videos, from playing percussions to developing black and white film prints.

To connect this all to MArteLive he’s presenting his sculptural work, which are based on audiovisual experiences where anyone can see, hear, play and observe the environment and nature surrounding us.

Juho is a Bachelor of Arts from Aalto University; Major in Sound Design for Film and Minor in Documentary Film. He has directed two short documentaries: an animated documentary ‘Baby with a Playlist’ about young fathers trying to communicate with their unborn children, and an autobiographical shor film ‘My Childhood feat. Drake’ about childhood traumas related to the lack of pudding. His IMDB is filled with works of sound for the past 10 years.

As an artist Juho sees the world as a space that is filled with communication, but the routes to link everyone together haven’t been found yet. This is where art comes in – multidisciplinary art is the missing link to achieve communication with the yet unknown.

Here’s an example of my performative sculptures.

‘Wind Whenever’ is a pair of wind chimes made out of casted zink. Visually they are based on how wood looks when it’s being cut out from a tree. The sacred themes permeate the artist’s works and reflect his identity, his love, fear of nature, belonging to northern Europe, the mystery, and the focus on current problems in the society.

The inspiration for my artwork is the eastern freshair yard of the former Lucerne Central Prison. The facilities were built in 1861-1862 and used until the prison closed. Still walled in and not easily accessible, the former prison yard has not been used for more than ten years. The prison itself was built on the site of what appears in the 1790/1792 plan of the city of Lucerne by Franz Xaver Schumacher to be an enclosed garden or hortus conclusus, which in this plan is connected to the so-called Old Nunciature. Based on the history of this place and using principles of the enclosed garden typology, my concept entails adapting the courtyard for reuse to create a new art space as an installation that can be viewed online. Four video cameras positioned in the courtyard focus on a sculpture of mirrors placed in the centre, thereby providing different, contrasting views of the courtyard pre-set to capture architecture and vegetation. Remote viewer participation, cyclical observations, comparisons, interpretations, and answers to pre-prepared questions about the courtyard space are also important elements. These are intended to evoke personal feelings, memories, experience, and the imagination of the virtual visitors.

After graduating in Fine Art university degree in Granada (Spain) and having an independent formation in Berlin (Germany), He is currently working in the Professional Dance Company “Aura Dance Theatre” (Kaunas, Lithuania).
Francisco held solo shows as “Al límite de lo lúdico (2018) or “Peligro de derrumbe” (2019) and collective exhibitions like XXXVI Rioja National Art Exhibition (2020), winning the second prize with his piece “Dialogue with the spinning-top”.
Finally, it is worth mentioning his teaching labor in workshops like “About drawing. through the body” (Madird, Spain) and “Tell me how you draw and I will tell you who you are” (Granada, Spain).

Connecting with the words said by Stalker during the expedition in “The Zone” in the famous movie of Tarkovsky, this piece proposes to sail between these two opposing concepts that, at the same time, they need from each other. A constant dialogue between the organic body and the structured space surrounding it; the pliancy and the hardness; the weakness and the strength… being both aware that their nature is based in implicitly contain the other.

I work mainly around the method I’m developing, Reconstruction, and its a life/art process, it focus in using the domestic objects to convey the stage of the balance between the self and the group, with focusing on the other as individual/private and public.

Artwork presentation

I explore the relationship between the individual, domestic furniture and space. I’m particularly interested in used furniture and the connotations it holds, and issues of absence and presence, intimacy and the charged potency of empty space.I used the chair in their works often as a reference to human presence in which I explore the question of a particular tension in each one of my projects. The aim is not to represent a specific individual but to address particular conditions of human existence and identity, in relation to place and home. And try to reveal complexities of human relations and their psychological dimensions, which I work through using second hand furniture in particular, chairs which they see as a fragment of society. The impetus for my works are personal, psychological and social experiences, with using the different stereotypes imposed on me from my won society and engage them to critique dominant norms and ideas of the social and notions of conformity, which is why I am interested in dealing with the private and controversial space of the home and the relationship between the group and the individual.

Živilė Minkutė

Vilnius, Lithuania

Živilė Minkutė finalized her BA(2013) and MA (2015) studies in Vilnius Academy of arts, Printmaking department. During these studies, she spent one year in France at, School of Fine arts in Mets (2012).

Since then, she is actively working in the visual art field as an artist, art director, and set designer. A variety of occupations broadened her will to experiment and brought various technical solutions into artistic practice.

An introverted nature brought her interest in presenting sensible and unseeable topics. She is talking through subtle ofter nature-based visuals as admiration for majestic and monumental state of nature. Besides that artist seeks to bring this traditional narrative into contemporary and conceptual context.

Main keywords: clean aesthetics, shape, the importance of process.

“Balance” is a mobile art piece. The title presents it quite literally because simplicity is the main key here. The work echos a natural rhythm by technically uncontrolled, but rather possibly interfered movement. The main structure and choice of colors simulate a “baby mobile”. The visually playful presentation presents a way to self-preservation and seeks to respond to the need for calm mesmerization instead of an active engagement. With infinite continuity comes a hypnotic sense that leads the viewer back to himself. The composition aspires to grant the viewer with the wawed-sea-like harmony. This way would by creating the collision between bizarre visuality and peaceful movement we have a synthetic inner harmony. Synthetically bright semi-transparent colors are shaped as biomorphic shapes, in order to allow the viewer to assimilate them with nature-based objects.

My work mostly relates to my own immediate personal experiences, combining scientific research and an intuitive creative process. For me what is most exciting is to merge new and unusual mediums and tools to create my work, mostly experimenting with organic natural materials. I see being an artist as a means to bring new perspectives, ideas into the collective consciousness. Learning, reading, examining, and researching are the ways I can stay in the constant flux of becoming anew, which I perceive especially important in the world we find ourselves today. So these works reflect these principles of active living, evolving and never being fully finished.

Artwork presentation

My works refer to natural forms. The mist rising above the grass from the lava bubbling under the ground, the texture of the broken stones, the moss and the roots of the trees became my source of inspiration. The reduced motifs are reflected in the created ceramic sculptures.

My work describes the flow of time on earth and the temporality of man and his cultural consequences in nature. I am interested in the tectonics of clay and earth, the way man perceives nature.

All work where created from Stoneware and fired in Japanese style kiln Anagama, witch creates magical fire and ash effects.

Austėja Masliukaitė (b. 1993) lives and works in Vilnius. Having studied Mathematics and Chemistry in Edinburgh, she changed direction and graduated from BA Photography and Media Arts at the VAA as well as the Naples Academy of Fine Arts. In 2020 she received a Master’s in Semiotics from Vilnius University.

Austėja is an audiovisual artist who writes and translates texts, creates music, participates in projects in Lithuania and abroad, including the Lithuanian performance at the 58th Venice Biennial. Recently, she has participated in group exhibition “Whirlpools” at the VAA’s exhibition hall “Titanikas” in Vilnius.

Work “Nebenoriu” (“I Don’t Want It Anymore”) materializes from the contemplation of desires and the plasticity of matter. If one managed to lick through the gold, silver would be discovered; if time was overcome, only beeswax softening in one’s hands would remain. A half-eaten lollipop signifies an interruption of pleasurable actions, a simultaneous moment of dissolution and hardening.
