In my practise I am questioning what does it mean to have a body in the twenty-first century, how the relations to our bodies change due to various environmental and societal factors, and how do we care for and make use of the physical possibilities of our existence.
The format of my works usually is (participatory) performances and / or installations, video works with performative elements, short films or instructions for the audience on how to execute the work.
An important aspect to my practise is constantly learning and developing my skills and knowledge, therefore, I both participate in and teach workshops, dance classes as well as I am part of various collaborative projects.

The first day we came they told us we should keep in mind that someone might die during the month that we stay there.
I didn’t believe it from the beginning. It didn’t happen until the end.
It’s simply that the process of aging or deterioration provides the necessary detachment or arouses a necessary sympathy.

Every mosquito bite makes me feel an itch.
Birds, outside the window, are being louder than the cars or the movie that I’m watching.
It all places me in a context, in which nature has a higher position in this hierarchy than I do.
I’m just part of things.
Moving.
We change ourselves
By the things that we do
Our habits
The supermarkets we get our food from
Where we sleep
Where and how we go to work
It all changes us
It changes our bodies and our memories
In this age there is nothing more important than to take care of yourself and each other. Listening to each other and helping each other out.
This city takes care of me like no one else
Nature takes care of me like no one else
Water takes care of me like no one else
My body takes care of me like no one else
That cup of coffee took care of me like no one else
There are some things that cannot be expressed in words.
Therefore, I stay silent.
Often.
Production of too many useful things
results in
production of too many useless people.
The same goes for words.

Object intervention to the subject’s environment. About the safety and the location of the subject and the technically manipulated gaze of the mechanism. A voyeuristic look at a household item – through the eyes of a machine. The things living on their your own and your life as well as the phenomenon of recording, the availability of information, about what is being filtered and how accurate the information is. Why does it rotate without pressing a button and who exactly is the observer?

I obtained fine arts education and have been specializing in the domain of graphics. I attended Skalvija film academy for 2 years and screened 7 short films in Skalvija’s movie theater. In 2019 I went to ”Abasha film festival” in Georgia with my fiction short film ”Vaikai” (”Kids”). I also had 3 personal exhibitions of visual arts in Vilnius. In 2021 I got among 10 other finalists in Zabolis art prize 2021 “Pandemveiksmis“ .

When you look to the past, there is a sense that the realm of death is an undeniable Truth. Life is captured in a stable, frozen and cold image. Whereas the present is better described as a place of tension between yesterday and tomorrow. Between obtaining and loosing. Since living seems to be a constant flux, it becomes impossible to stay in touch with your own present life. While in the past everything is already decided and done – it seems to be immovable. A man unconsciously starts to feel an uncontrollable wish to attach himself to the stagnant world of the past. He senses this is the only place to feel the ground under his feet, to not just unwillingly float around. Even though, the dead world might not be impartially frozen, still you crave for peace and choose to believe.
As a consequence, we create our own subjective worlds of things with significant meanings and interpretations. There might be a cost to it, but there might be a cost to denying the divinity and reality of death as well.

I am currently developing my work in collaboration with galleries, contributing to various public space projects, art workshops, and educational programs.The capture of my works begins with the exploration and accumulation of material from various places and spaces: I capture and collect various biomasses, select images and study them using various sources. After analyzing the accumulated information about the specifics of the place and cultural symbols, I subjectively reconstruct it and assign new meanings. Research becomes objects, paintings, photographs, texts or video works, in which I address the influence of a natural, virtual or urban place on my persona, my inner experience, perspective.

Paulius Šliaupa‘s (1990, Vilnius, Lithuania) works explore the relationship(s) between culture and nature, the interaction of ambience and light that affect our daily lives. By accumulating the flow of painterly images, atmospheric sounds and poetic energy, the artist creates sensual narratives. Most projects consist of multiple works, grouped around specific themes such as organic structures, rituals in nature, the flow of natural and artificial light and absurd poetic happenings.

Šliaupa holds a BA and a MFA from the Vilnius Academy of Arts as well as a MFA in media arts from KASK, Ghent. Selected exhibitions include the solo exhibition “Dès Vu“, Meno Nisa, Vilnius (2019) and the group exhibition “The upper hand“, IKOB, Eupen, Belgium (2020). Šliaupa is part of the HISK post-graduate programme 2020 & 2021.

Blue night is a sensorial journey through the dark lamp-lit cities. It seems that people are always somewhere nearby, but a deep feeling of loneliness and isolation keeps coming back. It is not clear what will happen next. I was inspired by Martin Scorsese film Taxi Driver (1976), it unfolds the slow psychological transitions through different physical states. Music for this oeuvre was made by the belgian composer Siebe Thijs.

We are the managers of Black Box Genesis art space and artists of Malakta Art Factory. We recently became members of G.A.P.
The closest upcoming project is Mural Rural Festival.
The dialogue began when we met, in our twenties, at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. Although during that period we were active from a professional point of view, it was from the foundation of Black Box Genesis that we started actively, voluntarily, consciously to collaborate and do research together, intertwining our languages (which are often two sides of the same medal) and find a common point of interest for projects and work together.
Some common subjects of our poetics are: color (investigated materially, symbolically, metaphorically), experiential subjectivity (as a starting point for our research), and introspectiveness, linked to existential themes.
A strength that unites us is being interdisciplinary and experimental.

Ignė Grikevičiūtė graduated from Vilnius Academy of Arts with a bachelor degree in contemporary sculpture in 2019. In 2018, she did an internship at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in the Netherlands. Currently, she continues to study sculpture for a master’s degree, studies art pedagogy at Vilnius University. Ignė Grikevičiūtė’s works intertwine the fields of photography, video, object and literature, the totality of which often questions the relation between realities, interpersonal communication, and the topic of subjectivity.
