Finalists selected in WesternCentral and Eastern Europe

Marcela Gawęda

Szczyrk, Poland

Born in 1998, third year student of graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. Currently I find myself best in graphics and in painting.
In my works I often refer to man, his psyche and physicality. I try to raise topics that bother me, which often ends up in a longer observation. I try to try new solutions, to go beyond a certain comfort zone, I like experimenting. The most interesting part of creation for me is the process itself.

A project carried out during the pandemic, in which I focused on observing my own body, but in time also my interior and psyche. I wonder what has changed since the days of “normality”. I analyze my thoughts, I delve into my reflections about how I actually feel. Here I pay attention to the basic activities of life, which at this point don’t seem to be the key, fundamental ones at all. Everything seems different, strange and unfamiliar.

My name is Ruben, although I am known as Sensetus, I am a 22-year-old digital artist from Spain, and I mainly use my Instagram account to show my artworks, which try to evoke feelings and sensations in those who see them. I’ve been uploading my artworks for almost 2 years now, although I’ve been privately for more than 7. Since I was a kid I’ve always been curious about everything, although if something caught my attention it was space, which is what my artworks focus on the most, although I try to touch all the areas that seem interesting to me.

Guyswithbadideas || Elio D’Arrigo || L

Ingeldorf, Luxemburg

Artist from Luxembourg exploring the world.

He does both traditional and digital art, but what he’s best known for is his vector artworks trying to combine traditional technique with vector graphics in order to create a new kind of style.

Artwork presentation

My artworks always try to capture a certain atmosphere or vibe and send it back to the viewers.
I love to play with colours and simple shapes, pointing out depth and light by circling it and making things look like they are alive and moving.
I started as a traditional artist doing realistic portraits, then i also started picking up on graphic design, doing some logos and posters here and there. At some point i realized that i don’t like making realistic portraits but i do love taking colours and simple shapes to create something special and unique, that is why i decided to try to combine these 2 things.
I approach all of my paintings in the traditional way using the knowledge that i have from realistic portraiture, but i limit myself to the tools i would use to create a logo on illustrator, that way i feel like i can combine the look and feel of both to connect them into a whole new style of artwork.

-Size: A4
-Material: digital painting/Paper
-Concept:I started a journey through an experiment around the historical part of my hometown (Kashan). In a confrontation with the mysterious atmosphere of the historical dilapidated buildings, our curious mind starts to characterize and narrate a story. These characters are in a dynamic interaction with the building that with regard to further exploration of the place, become deeper and more clear. This imagination is an initial point for the concept of numerous illustrations. A collection that I call “Kashan-Doodle)
The “Kashan doodle” project, is an attempt to combine black and white characters from Doodle, and pictures of dilapidated buildings from the historical part of Kashan. This project is trying to add dynamic scenes to these abandoned places, bold these places as an important part of the city, and eventually challenge the imagination of its audiences.

1. Uncertainty – The Maze of Life: The concept of art for this digital illustration circles around the question “How do you ever know for certain you are doing the right thing?” from Anthony Doerr’s book “All the Light We Cannot See”. You can’t know, can you? Or you can? Well, well. The magical answer is… It depends.
2. World Peace. An Ukrainian Woman’s Perspective – Before & After: 24 February 2022 will be a date that will unfortunately remain in all history books, and this digital illustration shows us the perspective of an Ukrainian woman before and after that. 3. Celebrating Women: Why? Because WE CAN and WE MUST. This digital illustration emphasizes on each woman who can find the power to smile, love and get up early in the morning even if at a certain point she faced at least one of these several issues: gender inequality, no reproductive rights, violence, abuse against women, etc.
4. Sunset in London: The 4th digital illustration from the “Sunset in” collection takes us to London, with Cristina, contemplating on a quote by Eckhart Tolle about “The Power of Now” while enjoying a Flat White coffee and a dreamy British sunset.
5. Sunset in Tokyo: The 7th digital illustration from the “Sunset in” collection sends us straight to Tokyo, along with Nicole, while she reads one of her favorite Haruki Murakami’s short stories (“Birthday Girl”), drinks a Japanese-style coffee in a Kintsugi cup, and enjoys a beautiful sunset.
All my artworks are made in Adobe Illustrator (adapted at the requested dimensions: 1920x1080px) and are inspired from the things around me – the books that I read, the people that I meet, the events that happen in my little world, but have an impact at such a big scale that they remind me how interconnected we really are.

Camila Plate

Wezembeek-Oppem, Belgium

Camila was born in California, grew up in Colombia and studied at the ECAL in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 2010 she moved to Brussels and started an entrepreneurial journey with various business and marketing experiences and a degree in management.
In 2018 Camila decided to found the Atelier Kami Association, to align her values with her passion and adapt them to her way of working.
Since the beginning of her conscious deconstruction and affirmation of her identity, about two years ago, Camila's drawings become abstract representations of what is most fundamentally human to her. Her personality emerges little by little through vibrant colors, geometric shapes and compositions exploring the potential of visual perception.
Artwork presentation

Almost an obsession, the observation of human behavior has always been more than an inspiration. Through drawing and exploring new visual approaches, I try to unravel what lies behind every human mask.

Since the beginning of my conscious deconstruction and affirmation of my identity, about two years ago, my drawings become abstract representations of what is most fundamentally human to me. My personality gradually emerges through vibrant colors, geometric shapes and compositions exploring the potential of visual perception.

It is in this colorful style that I am passionate about and that identifies me, that I submit my application.

The drawings I share here are made digitally, always starting from a sketch made similarly, in pencil, pen, felt-tip or any other drawing tool on paper. My ambition is to bring these faces further, by exploring other types of creation, such as painting on large surfaces, sculpture or textile creation. I work on this artistic project in my free time, in addition to my work as a freelance graphic designer.
